It is my privilege to welcome you to the Network of Executive Women and serve you as its president. NEW is the CPG/retail industry's largest diversity organization, with more than 2,200 members representing more than 300 companies and 30 corporate sponsors. Our mission is helping attract, retain and advance women in the retail and consumer products industry through education, leadership and business development. NEW enhances our industry’s image, champions the business case for diversity and develops best practices that help you and your company compete. As vice president, global customer business development diversity, for Procter & Gamble, I believe passionately in the mission of NEW. I believe you and your company will derive bottom-line benefits from management diversity. I have experienced how my own company has changed from the primarily male organization I joined 30 years ago to one with greater representation of women and minorities at all levels. This has been a key advantage in the marketplace — and it can help your company, too
The need for NEW is real. Though women account for 47 percent of the labor force, they hold only 15.7 percent of the corporate officer positions at Fortune 500 companies; in the retail industry that figure declines to 11.7 percent. As an industry, we must address this talent gap to compete. Our markets are full of challenges and opportunities. NEW plans to meet them with diversity best practices, a robust regional growth strategy, expanded member services, and increased mentoring and coaching. We are committed to increasing the number of multicultural women with our Women of Color initiative and attracting more future leaders to CPG/retail with our scholarship program. We plan to grow our national Leadership Summit. And we plan to develop key metrics that will measure the diversity ROI for our sponsors. I have met so many wonderful men and women through my service in the Network of Executive Women. I have enjoyed watching them and their organizations grow by participating in NEW.
